Sky Talk, June 2010: Uranus in Aries
"There is a field beyond right thinking and beyond wrong thinking.
I will meet you there."
Rumi
A gladiatorial energy permeates the Collective Consciousness this month. Colourful flags flutter bold messages of national unity, of allegiance to the teams of sportsmen who will be in "conflict" in our sport stadiums.
On June 8, Jupiter, planet of expansion and amplification, begins a fiery tango with Uranus. We will experience the same transit in September 2010 and January 2011. South Africa’s chart for June 11th is interesting from an astrological perspective – the energy of the planets reflect our collective pride, hope, optimism, and perhaps, idealism, as well as the impetus for transformative foreign policy, and a new of leadership (2013.
This dynamic energy will manifest in all of our lives, first for those of us born with Cardinal planets in the early degrees of Aries, Libra, Capricorn or Cancer. We will experience this energy first, perhaps as an upheaval or a struggle to new growth and renewal.
Uranus/Jupiter energy suggests a mood of accelerated activity, courage to step out of the ties that bind, energy to tackle projects and courageously seize new opportunities. To follow our bliss! It is a significant cosmic marker when an outer planet moves into a new sign. It is always a signal that we are collectively manifesting a new beginning. When Uranus moves into Aries, this is an exclamation!
Uranus takes about seven years to transit a sign, returning to the same position every 84 years – a whole life span for some of us, and a whole epoch of human evolution! Think of Uranus energy like a racehorse – or a red Ferari. Uranus accelerates the pace of change, speeds up the impetus to move from the status quo. For now, we get a spicy hors ‘d oevre, as Uranus will move through the sign of Aries, until August 14, then this original and eccentric planet will re-enter Pisces in retrograde motion.
Uranus is back in Aries for good in 2011 and remains there until 2019. If you know of anyone having a birthday between May 28th and August 14th this will be a year of stepping into something new and original. Babies born between 2010 and 2019 will be a generation of free spirits. The last Uranus in Aries generation born between 1927 and 1935 were dubbed “Rebels without a cause". A generation of high spirited, defiant people who challenged the rules, anticipated the trends, broke the boundaries of conventionality.
Courage and action! See the silver screen symbolism: the roguish Robin Hood and the squash buckling Prince of Persia; fashion trends are fierce, with warrior-football star influences adorning boyishly sinuous bodies on international catwalks.
Once again, our interconnectedness with all Life and with our Home planet is reflected in violent and disruptive fire, smoke and ash spewing from the core of our planet. Toxic oil is still haemorrhaging in the Gulf of Mexico, staining the seas, extinguishing life, in what US President Obama has described as "potentially unprecedented" environmental disaster. In Central America, thousands of people have been displaced by two volcanic eruptions in Guatemala and Ecuador.
Aggression builds in South East Asia, fanned by the US (with hefty economic investment in South Korea ) and once more, War looms like an insane spectre.
Uranus was in Aries in recent human history in 1843-50 and 1927-34. These were dynamic unsettling times for our ancestors. Times of impulsive action, political unrest, revolution, ideological change. In the late 20s and early 30s, (Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Cancer) were in tense aspect (90 degrees) The Great Depression, the Wall Street Crash, and the appalling shame of the Holocaust. The tension we are experiencing collectively now does not have to end in a holocaust, unless we all collude and unconsciously project our Shadow onto our leaders. Uranus in Aries calls for individual responsibility and free thought. The courage to ask, "Is this True?"
I choose to see this new era as a time of enormous potential for humanity and all sentient beings on this planet. I choose to see this new era as a time of Light. A time of innovative ideas, and a recognition that our thoughts do create our reality, and we are each responsible for what we create in our lives. Countries go to war out of the pain of disconnection, just as we disconnect from our loved ones out of pain and fear. Divorce courts are our battle fields. Children live in the toxic space of pain and anger. Our workplaces are environments of fear and competition. How can we expect our leaders hold the energy of the macrocosm when there so much pollution in the energy of the microcosm?
Uranus in Aries will bring new technology, new inventions, pioneering new discoveries, new political leaders, and hopefully, Jupiter and Uranus will act as cosmic catalysts for change at the next Climate Change Conference at the end of November, as the interconnection between man, technology, and Nature becomes critical for our survival as a species.
Relationships with others will become increasingly important as we take responsibility for our thoughts, and the energy-in- motion in our relational space. So if you are struggling now, celebrate the struggle. It is a sign of growth! The first lunar eclipse of 2010 (Moon in Capricorn on June 26 squares Uranus and Jupiter, and conjunct Pluto) is a significant eclipse, and even though partial (and not visible from Africa), will be a cosmic catalyst for these times.
