Sky Talk, July 2010: Real Relationships - Saturn in Libra

We are hardwired to be relational beings. Whether we are conscious of an energy-exchange or not, we are always in some kind of relationship, always exchanging energy in some form: with our colleagues, our lovers, our children, our in-laws, our friends, our former partners, the soul-animals who live in our homes and our Earth. In metaphysical space, we are in relationship with people with whom we are no longer in physical connection. In dream-time we transcend the barriers of our material “reality”, and sometimes meet with people we have not seen in years. In this “dream time” these next two and a half years, we are all being invited to take an evolutionary step into conscious, responsible, integrated, “mature” relationship.

For the first time in 30 years, on October 29, 2009, Saturn entered the sign of Libra, before dipping back into Virgo on April 8 this year. From July 21, this representative of our Collective desire to manifest boundaries and limits, new definitions will remain in the sign of its exultation until October 5, 2012.

For those of us with personal planets in Cardinal signs–Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn, (a professional astrologer can tell you if you do)–this is a time to separate what is “real” from what is assumed or imagined, so that we can create space for real love and connection in our homes and our workplaces

In conscious relating we re-sculpt each other’s brain neurons. The brain has to be continually re-sculpted to stay flexible, needing new learning, new education, and new life experience. Our thoughts and intentions are enormously powerful. So often, we misuse the power of our imaginations by rehearsing past failures and past mistakes, past pain. We catastrophize, and sculpt our brains badly by re-playing the same old tapes. Now we are being called to be discerning. To identify our own authentic Voice, and the destructive voices of the old tapes, the old harangue of parental complexes.

Saturn is the great Teacher, the Senex. The energy of this time invites us all to use the powerful tool of our imagination, to take responsibility for what we are putting into the sacred relationship space. To pull back our projections, escape our own narcissism.

During Saturn’s transit through Libra we may be called upon to define Commitment. Creating space for real love, endurance and relational maturity. This is a time for manifesting reality in relationship, which is essential if there is to be the safety to grow and heal. As long as we project our inner image, we stay trapped in our own narcissism and cannot really love someone other than ourselves. We use the word, “Love” so lightly in our society. Real love sees the soul of the other. Real love mirrors the other person. Real love takes responsibility for our inner voices and the soap operas of our past. Real love is embracing our human-ness and the human-ness of the Other.

What Saturn in the sign of Libra represents for us all on this planet at this critical point in our evolution is a courageous leap into a new consciousness.

And when one person comes into consciousness, the whole dynamic of his or her family and workplace changes.

As long as we all continue to operate in the old paradigm, pushing doggedly towards our linear goals and outworn power-struggles, we will be depleted. We are fighting against the energy of this time–swimming against the Wave. What the astrology reflects is an initiation into a new femininity, balanced by a new masculinity. But, we have to be alert and awake or else be sucked back into unconscious matriarchy and patriarchy. It will force you to move to a new level, an acute sensitivity to each other and to Nature... if you will listen.
